Critic-in-Residence Program

Initiated in 2018, our Critic in Residence program hosts an independent contemporary art curator from outside the state to live in Kentucky for two months. During that time, the curator conducts studio visits with artists and participates in the activities of the arts community, often taking part in panel discussions and visiting classes at the universities. This allows Kentucky artists to benefit from a different critical perspective while also offering outside curators the chance to discover the rich artistic activity within the state.

Combined, these six visiting critics conducted 250 studio visits with Kentucky artists, giving professional critiques while gaining insight into the unique, diverse, and vibrant artistic community that exists in the region. The program is currently on hiatus as the foundation seeks a new residence for the visiting critics and explores expanding the host cities across the state.
